About us

Who we are, what this site is for, and how it pays for itself.

The Outfit Files is a small independent publication about fit, fabric, care & repair. Every piece here starts from a question a reasonable person might ask and tries to answer it completely enough to be useful.

What we cover

The site is organised into 5 sections:

  • Fit — Where a garment should sit, and what a tailor can and cannot change.
  • Fabric — Fibres, weaves and weights, and what each one does after a year of wear.
  • Care & Repair — Washing, storage and repairs — the difference between five years and one.
  • Wardrobe — Building a set of clothes that works together instead of accumulating one.
  • Style History — Where a garment came from, usually somewhere far less glamorous.

Garments and wardrobes. No beauty, cosmetics or grooming. Keeping the remit narrow is deliberate; a title that covers everything covers nothing well.

How we work

Articles are researched before they are written, and written by people rather than generated. Where a claim is contested we say so. Where something depends on where you live or what you already have, we say that too, instead of writing as though one answer fits everyone.

Our full editorial policy sets out how pieces are researched, reviewed and corrected.

How this site is funded

The Outfit Files is supported by advertising placed around the articles. That is the entire commercial relationship: advertisers buy space, not coverage. No piece is written to order, and none is reviewed by an advertiser before publication.

Who publishes it

The Outfit Files is published by Gulati Press, a business owned and run by Mohit Gulati, registered in Dwarka, New Delhi, Delhi, India. It has been publishing since 2018.

The registered address appears on our contact page and in our terms and conditions. The quickest way to reach the editorial desk is the form on the contact page, or editorial@theoutfitfiles.com.

Photography

Photographs are licensed from Pexels and credited to the photographer beneath each image. We do not use generated imagery, and we do not present a photograph as documentation of the specific thing an article describes unless the caption says so.
